They both have advantages based on what environment they are
used in.
UHF has a shorter wavelength and its signal penetrates
through walls far better than VHF. UHF also “bounces” around better in a city
environment and within buildings. UHF penetrates through walls far better than
VHF.
VHF has a long wavelength. This is great if you are mainly
using your radios outdoors. VHF will give you more distance than UHF outdoors.
UHF radios cannot talk with VHF radios, so if you currently
own radios and want to keep using them with new radios, then you must buy the
same frequency that you currently own.
VHF stands for Very High Frequency, UHF stands for Ultra
High Frequency.
VHF Two Way Radios are typically 150-174 MHz
UHF Two Way Radios are typically 450-490 MHz
